Lesson 3

The objectives for this lesson are;
  • To develop knowledge gained in the previous lesson (opening a single-staved, treble clef, 4/4 score in D major) by demonstrating the ability to start new scores in Sibelius for a variety of musical ensembles, in a variety of keys and using a variety of time signatures.
  • To construct a coherent screencast that presents information to a specific audience (remember who?) in a clear and organised manner.
  • To demonstrate to the assessor your ability to identify/explain/appraise key score elements.

Most of this lesson will be dedicated to the production of your screencast. Under the pressure of recording, you will make errors; highlight the wrong item, stumble over your words, mismatch the visual image and the spoken definition, etc. Therefore, you will probably make several attempts at capturing your screencast. You will not have much time for script-writing or storyboarding, so successful completion of the previous homework is vital.

Homework;
  • Write an evaluation of your screencast, including a self-assessment against the assignment criteria.
  • Watch the following Sibelius tutorials on the Video Tutorials page; Finding Your Way Round Sibelius, Starting a New Score in Sibelius, Note Input in Sibelius & Selecting and Copying in Sibelius (17 mins in total)

    Next lesson you will;
    • Add titles, credits & copyright acknowledgements to your screencast footage.
    • Complete the assignment documentation and submit your assignment for assessment.
    • Review the task for assignment 2 'Engraving a Score'.
